Hawaii’s (Oahu) number one tourist attraction is Pearl Harbor. This is an official site.
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service against the United State navel base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory, on the morning of December 7th 1941.-wikipedia
There is deep history with Pearl Harbor. I am not going to explain it here because I do not know it well enough and I don’t want to give you wrong information. I just want to provide you with tips on how to go to Pearl Harbor. It is a little bit complicated and there are lots of “fake” websites that look like the government site, but are not.
Visit Pearl Harbor? Do I recommend? Honestly, I am not sure. When I visited there I just could not stop tears. It hurts. My family did not die or anything during this terrible war, but it is still very emotional because of those that did. If you want to spend the time to learn what was happening, you should go. If you want to show your kids a peek into history, yes you should.
The Pearl Harbor historic site is where the Japanese attacked many people. Lots of people lost their life, local people in Hawaii were confused, hurt, died, and very involved. You need to prepare yourself to feel that emotion.
If part of what you want to do while visiting Oahu is visit the historic site of Pearl Harbor, this is my recommendation.
Go with a professional guide, find tour/guide who is “professional” and educated on the Pearl Harbor historic site. Some of the tour companies will just drop you off and pick you up. You need to get USS Arizona tickets, so just make sure your tour comes with a ticket.
There are sites that look like the “official website” of Pearl Harbor, but lots of websites are “fake”. If you want to go and visit it on you own self visit here.
Just remember that if you want to check all of the museums it takes all day. If you don’t want to spend all day touring, but you want to see a Pearl Harbor, just go there. You will still see battleships, the memorial statue and there are few small museums you can walk in and learn what happens for free.(Parking and entrance are free of charge.)
