Day 3
Daytime: Holoholo at Kona town

We are a little bit tired today so decided just take a time. You don’t want to go photo shoot when you are tired. If your brain is not straight enough to concentrate on photography it is going to bad happen so I don’t do over work for photography.

Just walking around Kailua-Kona town. There are lots of beautiful galleries, souvenir shops, impressing farmer’s market (it is cheaper than Oahu!!), shave ice, fresh Poke and just stop waking on the side of the Ocean. Relax for the night adventure tonight.

Night time: Sacred Lake

Again, we decided to go to 13,020 ft Hawaiian sacred lake. This wasn’t our plan but I LOST almost ALL PHOTOS that I took from yesterday!! ALL photographer or photography lover should know this. One of my professional photographer warns me before this trip, the photos in the card (SD, Compact flush etc) it is very easy to be gone by static electric when you take off from the camera or put into a card reader.

I have switched to a digital camera since in 2010 I had no such a problem so that actually shocked me. This is what I do to save my photos during my photo trip. CF card reader to transfer (Copy) to the tablet device, tablet to memory sticks (I usually take 2 memory sticks, 2 copies).

This time I did same BUT when I looked at card file on the tablet there are ONLY 10 photos on the file. It has to be at least 60 photos. I was in the panic. I put back to my DSLR and checked the file in the camera but there are no files (only 10 files.) I have no idea what was happening or what caused happen this. Static electric, maybe because there was very dry and I felt static electric last night at the Sacred lake. Sounds like the safest way to transfer/save your file is I think transfer direct your camera to a computer or some device. Don’t take a card out from your camera and always format before new shooting.  ( I don’t think you can transfer the file directly from DSLR to tablet.) I am going to buy 2 in 1 small laptop before I go next trip that way I can transfer directly from DSLR also I can safe into HDD. (*I tried to recover the photos that I lost from Lexar XQD card from Lexar soft wear but didn’t work AT ALL. I did not recover ANY of the photos that I lost.)

By the way, day two on Hawaii sacred lake elevation at 13,020 ft. Last night my buddy seems like he was getting hypothermia so we couldn’t stay longer so he got groves, thick socks for this time. (I was wearing, long t-shirt, sweater, snow jacket, sweatpants, snow pants and sheep skin boots. It was still cold but I was okay. )Please be aware, at 13,020 ft is 40% LESS oxygen, your brain does not work normally as well as your body, you may get a head ache or some kind of illness. Temperature is also the key. Even the beginning of October there is only 40F or even colder. Walking to lake from parking lot is not long distance but all these facts will kill you. It was only a few miles to get a lake from the parking lot but it was much harder than a 25-mile hike on the mountain. Night time, there is no clear “trail”. I don’t really recommend going here at night time. I am confident, if I went here by my self I definitely lost in the highest mountain in Hawaii that means hopeless to be rescued on the same day or two, hopefully, I am going be to found next morning if I am lucky.  DO NOT go here by your self at all. You need a buddy like same as you go diving.
